Publication Customer Service Excellence through Service Quality Assessment and Enhancement Project at Al Maktoum Medical Library(2019-11) Muir, Tamara; Rahman, Thasleem HAl Maktoum Medical Library (AMML) support patrons to find solutions for their information needs and provide effective & efficient ways of services to deliver information. To achieve excellence in customer service continuous assessment is required. To ensure high quality services to the patrons library benchmarked international standard for delivering excellence in customer service. The project proved useful to assess the quality of services offered at AMML. It concludes that AMML should maintain and strengthen the services with which users are satisfied, and improve those about which they are concerned. A library is required not only to improve its collection, services and facilities , but it also should continue taking their feedback to discover the effectiveness of the resources and services offered. Such studies may be conducted at regular intervals to understand internal process, assess the quality of services and users' perceptions that may be addressed to achieve their satisfaction.Publication Implementing Institutional Repository to Enhance Research Impact of MBRU Community(2019-11) Rahman, Thasleem HIn this electronic publishing age, academic institutions including universities have increasingly recognized that an institutional repository (IR) is an essential infrastructure for scholarly dissemination. An IR is a digital research archive consisting of accessible collections of scholarly work that represent the intellectual capital of an institution. It is a means for institutions to manage the digital scholarship their communities produce, maximize access to research outputs both before and after publication and also to increase the visibility and academic prestige of both the institution and authors. MBRU Research Repository is developed to collect, preserve and make accessible the digital content produced by students, faculty and staff of MBRU and maximize the value of existing educational digital content through implementation of long term digital preservation strategy and solution. A strategic planning is required before developing IR, several meetings were held between the library team and technology team for project planning focused mainly on infrastructural requirement, manpower, developing policy & guidelines, software selection, financial aspects, content selection and monitoring the implementation. Software selection is a crtical element in IR project. Library technology team had done market study and research on different solutions available for IR. MBRU Smart Services team worked closely with the library to ensure the appropriate software selection and to meet the technical requirement for the project implementation.Publication Information Literacy Integration into Curriculum – A Strategic Plan for MBRU(2019-11) Tegginmani, Shakeel AInformation literacy is a set of abilities to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information. It is an ability to articulate one's information need, identify, locate and access appropriate sources of information to meet the information need, and to effectively use information resources, regardless of format. Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences focuses on integrating information literacy instruction into the curriculum beginning from the first year through the final year of study, gradually building on the existing knowledge basePublication Living Books: A Community Engagement Event to Encourage Open & Real Conversation(2019-11) Abdelkhaliq, LailaInspired by Human Library which is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. Al Maktoum Medical Library designed a similar framework where people can come and talk at an interpersonal level, share their knowledge and experience, ask questions and learn from each other. Through Living Books we tried to create a space for open and real conversations, instead of leafing through a book for information, you learn by conversing with someone who knows the subject that is of your interest and willing to share their knowledge and experience. Living Books event is an effort to promote sharing experience, and encourage understanding between people who come from different lifestyles or cultural backgrounds.Publication Supporting People of Determination through Art Exhibition at Al Maktoum Medical Library(2019-11) Rafeeq, MohamedAs per the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai is set to become the world’s friendliest place for People of Determination (POD) with the Government of Dubai issuing many legislations to protect their rights and provide them with internationally benchmarked support. MBRU organized an event at Al Maktoum Medical Library to support and encourage POD through their art exhibition. Art Exhbition of POD was held on the Autism Awareness Day, 23rd April 2019. AMML collaborated with Vaikuntha consultancy, an organization recognized for its contribution in supporting inclusive communities, whose principal objective is integrating POD with rest of the society, invited few members of POD along with their numerous pieces of artworks and paintings which were exhibited for sale in the library. All library patrons were invited to participate for the exhibit and most of the artworks and painting were able to sell during the exhibit.Publication Supporting Research through Research Workshop Series at MBRU – A Strategic Plan(2019-11) Tegginmani, Shakeel AAl Maktoum Medical Library initiated Research workshop series for students, faculty, staff at MBRU and other medical professionals at Dubai Healthcare City. These workshops aims to develop more confidence by exploring techniques in research methodology, meta analysis and systematic reviews.Publication Thinking Beyond Traditional Library Services by Offering Wellness Services at Al Maktoum Medical Library(2019-11) Rahman, Thasleem HAl Maktoum Medical Library strive to offer excellent resources and services to support our patrons academic and intellectual pursuits, in addition to that our new Wellness Services aims to support our patron as a whole person. There are a number of ways academic libraries can support well-being, including developing spaces, services, and collections that help students to develop good emotional, social, physical, and mental health. The library can be a place that students can visit to calm the mind and refocus in the midst of a busy day. Given our technology-rich lives, there are times when it’s healthy to leave the screen behind, sit somewhere comfortable, and enjoy a good book. For libraries, this means creating spaces for relaxing and comfortable reading. Here at the Al Maktoum Medical Library, you’ll find a growing collection of resources designed to enhance and support your overall health and wellbeing. Our library welcomes everyone, whether it’s to study, to rest, or to recharge.Publication A Unique Community Engagement Activity at MBRU(2018-11) Muir, Tamara; Rahman, Thasleem H; Tegginmani, Shakeel A; Abdelkhaliq, Laila; Rafeeq, MohamedThe Al Maktoum Medical Library (AMML), an arm of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), plays a key role in supporting students and staff of MBRU as well as the wider healthcare community, by providing access to high-quality and authoritative information resources. AMML hosted a library week event on September 23rd - 27th 2018 under the theme ”Discover, Share and Inspire” with both social and library educational activities. It was a unique approach to conduct a whole week of activities to engage library users that included students, faculty, staff and wider healthcare professionals. Key objectives of the Library Week were to promote the library services and create awareness of the vital role that library plays in an academic institute. Preparation started with forming an organizing committee comprising of library staff, students, and faculty to design the scientific, social and community engagement programs for the library week. Library collaborated with leading medical content publishers, library technology providers, bookshops, regional university librarians, internal and external stakeholders.
